- Dance depicts Christian life.
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: P-31794 DANCE DEPICTS CHRISTIAN LIFE TOKYO -- One of Japan’s leading classical dancers, Mrs. Futaba Hanayagi (center), has used the medium of which she is a master to express what Christianity has meant in her life. Accompanied by five dancers, she portrays her spiritual journey -- from the despair when illness threatened to end her career at the age of nineteen -- to the vigor, joy and gratitude that came when she became a Christian. Christian hymns, sung by a 20-voice choir and accompanied by classical Japanese instruments, provide background. The unique performance has been recorded on a 20-minute color film by the National Christian Council of Japan. It is available in the United Sates, with an English soundtrack, through the Radio, Visual Education and Mass Communication Committee (RAVEMCCO) of the National Council of Churches in New York. - Christian Community of Okinawa.
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: #43 CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY OF OKINAWA Chaplain Roy N. Hillyer, senior chaplain of the Tenth Army on Okinawa (seated at center of table) with leaders of the Christian community at Shimmabuke, Okinawa [sic. Shimabuku, Okinawa]. The two men at the right of the table were originally converted by a Methodist missionary who spent a short time on the island, thirty years ago, while enroute to Japan. They are Mojon and Shosei Kina, brothers. Seated at the left is Corporal Tom Higa, a native of Shimmabuke [sic. Shimabuku], who had gone to school in Honolulu, and there enlisted in the U.S. Army. Shosei is superintendent of the school system. Both he and his brother have been preaching the Gospel from the Bible in the Japanese language left with them by the missionary, thirty years ago.
