- Text transcribed from caption: PUNJAB SIKHS FORM COLORFUL COLONY #1543 VANCOUVER, B.C. -- Some 40 years ago pioneering Sikhs from Punjab came here and settled around Vancouver, New Westminster and Victoria. Although they have become successful businessmen and farmers, they have kept many of their Punjab ways, most evident of which is their religion. During services men wear turbans, such as that worn by this youngster. He has just attended solemn ceremony honoring those who have died for the faith. Collins of Toronto, minister of the Fairfield United church, Hamilton, has been appointed assistant minister of the Colborne Street United church, London, Ont., which has a large congregation. She is one of the few women ministers of the United Church of Canada to be named to town or city churches.
