- Text transcribed from caption: GERMANY’S METHODIST BISHOP #1264 BERLIN -- Dr. F. H. Otto Melle is the Methodist Bishop of Germany, and a leading temperance crusader on the Continent. A resident of Berlin, Dr. Melle formerly was director of the Methodist Theological Seminary at Frankfurt am Main, largest free-church institute of its kind in Europe. One of the first Germans to visit the U.S. after World War 1, Bishop Melle often has been a delegate to the General Conference of the Methodist Church. - Text transcribed from caption: BERLIN CHURCH LEADER 1292 BERLIN -- Dr. Hans Boehm, a member of the High Council of the Evangelical Church, was one of the leading anti-Nazi figures among the German clergy during the war. A Berlin Provost of the Evangelical Church, he was imprisoned five times by the Gestapo, the last time in connection with the plot against Hitler’s life in July, 1944. One of two persons to escape alive from Gestapo headquarters when the city fell, Dr. Boehm is 46 years old. His right leg was amputated in World War 1. - Text transcribed from caption: #810 BERLIN COUNSELLOR FOR ROMAN CATHOLIC INTEREST Father Peter Buchholz is the Counsellor [sic. Councillor] for Roman Catholic interests and chairman of the Office for Church Affairs of the Berlin city government. For twenty years he was chaplain at the Plotzensee Prison near Berlin. During the Nazi regime he ministered to over 1000 political prisoners who were sentenced to die by hanging. These included Catholics executed for the famous July 20 attempt on Hitler’s life.
