Wallace of Alabama, an avowed segregationist, is picketed by a Roman Catholic priest, Father Bernard Strange, as he campaigns in Indianapolis, Ind., for votes in the state’s Democratic Presidential primary. Father Strange is pastor of St. Rita’s church in that city. The states rights advocate has drawn sharp opposition from Protestant, Catholic and Jewish clergymen in his anti-civil rights invasion of Northern states. The African prelate had contributed $500 toward the work of the organization. The presentation took place during the annual meeting of the Knights of St. Peter Claver at Indianapolis.
