- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: P-30781 BILLY GRAHAM PLANS BRITISH CRUSADE LONDON -- American evangelist Billy Graham addresses 3,000 clergy and laymen in Westminster as he reveals plans for a major crusade in Great Britain in 1965 or 1966. The Southern Baptist minister said the definite scheduling of the campaign--expected to last 12 weeks--depends on the availability of Earls Court Stadium, which seats 25,000 persons. Mr. Graham said he had been invited to preach in England by a group of 70 laymen who are expected to underwrite the $500,000 crusade. Expressing fears that the country’s moral standards were in danger, the evangelist said he was shocked by crime and immorality statistics in Britain and that England needed a “moral and spiritual awakening.” Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (U-3D-64-NAB)

Dr. Coggan chose the debate on the reintroduction of capital punishment to make his speech. He ended by saying, “Let there be punishment of the most severe kind for those who murder defenseless women and children, or who hold to ransom those whose way of life or thought they happen to oppose. But leave the final judgement of death in the hands where final judgment rests and where forgiveness can alone be found.” Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (PP-LON-12D-74-DS)

- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: PC-45004 AGREEMENT LONDON -- Prime Minister Liam Cosgrave of the Irish Republic (left) shakes hands with British Prime Minister Edward Heath at a conference at which the two nations and the moderate Protestant and Roman Catholic leadership of Northern Ireland agreed on sweeping proposals for the future of Ulster. Under the agreement, reached after talks at Berkshire, north of London, both the Republic of Ireland and Britain would make solemn pledges about the status of Northern Ireland and deposit them at the United Nations. Dublin will pledge its recognition that the present status of the North, with its link to Britain, cannot be changed except when a majority in the North so decides. For her part, Britain has pledged that if someday a majority in Ulster should decide to join a united Ireland, she will put no obstacles in the way.
