- Text transcribed from caption: PC-31124 PHILADELPHIA RELIGIOUS LEADERS ACT ON RACE PHILADELPHIA- Protestant and Roman Catholic bishops make public the first interreligious statement on racial justice and religious harmony ever issued in Philadelphia. Shown left to right are Methodist Bishop Fred Pierce Corson of Philadelphia, head of the World Methodist Council; Catholic Archbishop John J. Krol of Philadelphia; and Protestant Episcopal Bishop Robert L. DeWitt of Pennsylvania. The joint statement was also signed by local Baptist, Lutheran, Quaker, United Presbyterian, United Church of Christ, and Jewish leaders. For the first time in this city, many of them attended a Mass offered for racial and religious harmony by Archbishop Krol in the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul. - Text transcribed from caption: PC-30732 DIALOGUE AND A GIFT PHILADELPHIA -- Roman Catholic and Methodist leaders of Philadelphia in an ecumenical dialogue. Here Archbishop John J. Krol, left, presents to Methodist Bishop Fred Pierce Corson a memento of the Second Vatican Council. The gift, a medal presented to the Catholic prelate by Pope Paul VI, was made as the two churchmen completed a half-hour discussion on a Philadelphia TV station. It was their second televised dialogue within a year. Archbishop Krol is an undersecretary of the Council, while Bishop Corson, president of the World Methodist Council, attended the first and second sessions as a delegate-observer. Presentation was made by Bishop Charles Brashares of Chicago (center) and Bishop Matthew W. Clair, Jr., of St. Louis, Mo. (second from right). With them, holding their citations, are, left to right: Aaron Henry of Clarksdale, Miss., head of the NAACP Mississippi chapter; Bishop A. Raymond Grant of Portland, Ore.; Mrs. Marion Downs, Los Angeles concert singer; Albert Cardinal Meyer, Catholic Archbishop of Chicago; Rabbi Julius Mark of New York; Miss Thelma Stevens of New York, an executive secretary of the Methodist Woman’s Division of Christian Service; and Bishop Charles F.
