- Text transcribed from caption: MINISTERS PICKET WHITE HOUSE #S-4663 WASHINGTON -- Thirty-six ministers from various Protestant denominations formed a picket line on Pennsylvania Ave. in front of the White House to protest the continued imprisonment of 1,200 conscientious objectors. The pickets, representing the Committee for Amnesty, paraded quietly, bearing placards that read “Jail for Conscience Denies Religious Freedom” and “Free U.S. Religious Prisoners” while separate delegations of clergymen brought the issue in person to Attorney General Tom C. Clark and David K. Niles, administrative assistant to President Truman. Other groups visited Capitol Hill to present their plea to members of Congress.
