- "Don't marry a pastor."
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: P-32035 ‘DON’T MARRY A PASTOR’ LONDON -- The outspoken opinion of Mrs. Brenda Wolfe of London -- that being a pastor’s wife is a “lousy job” -- had international impact. Writing the Church of England publication, Prism, she declared that “clergy ought to be celibate” and advised girls that to marry a pastor means to marry a congregation. As her words were spread around the globe, a group of American Lutheran Church pastor’s wives gathered in Minneapolis, Minn., were virtually unanimous in their disagreement with the British woman. Mrs. Irving Strangland of Minneapolis argued that Mrs. Wolfe “misunderstands a man’s calling” and “also missed her own calling, which is to serve first as a Christian, then as a pastor’s wife.” Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (PP-NY-1D-65-NBM)

- "Pop" music in Hong Kong church.
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: P-31146 “POP” MUSIC IN HONG KONG CHURCH HONG KONG- The Rev. Robin W. Howard, vicar of Christ Anglican church in Hong Kong, conducts a “beat” service for his congregation, complete with an eight-piece band. He said he introduced “pop” music as part of his services, from time to time, on the assumption that most worshippers would enjoy it. The immediate reaction was, he said, “We aren’t used to it in church yet, but we shall like it.” Vicar Howard said he announces in advance when he will hold services with a “swinging beat” so that those who oppose the idea can stay away. - Description
- Text transcribed from caption: CEPO-31580 'THIS IS MY BLOOD...' VATICAN CITY -- Concelebrants of the Latin Rite Mass in St. Peter's Basilica opening the Vatican Council's third session partake of the consecrated wine with a spoon from the chalice, as Pope Paul VI stands by praying. The pontiff alone drank the wine directly from the chalice. In addition to the Pope, 24 prelates concelebrated the Mass. These included three cardinals, 15 archbishops -- two of whom were Africans; four bishops and two heads of religious orders. The service marked the first time on record that a Latin Rite Mass was ever concelebrated in the huge basilica. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (KEY-9C-64-NAB)
