- Ecumenism and understanding.
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: PC-32071 ECUMENISM AND UNDERSTANDING NEW ORLEANS -- A Baptismal font in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral is explained to visiting religious dignitaries by Orthodox Bishop Silas of New Orleans. From left are: Episcopal Bishop Girault M. Jones of Louisiana; Catholic Archbishop John P. Cody of New Orleans; and Dean William Gaines of the host cathedral. The visit, in which other Christian and Jewish clergy participated, was held as part of New Orlean’s “Operation Understanding -- 1965” launched last year by Archbishop Cody. - Title
- Three nuns teaching future priests.
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: C-31639 THREE NUNS TEACHING FUTURE PRIESTS BATON ROUGE, La. -- These nuns are on the teaching staff of St. Joseph Cathedral Prep School (day seminary) in Baton Rouge, La., which until their appointment had been an all-male school. Shown trying out foreign language laboratory equipment are Sister Mary Peter (left), and Mother Rosario Arocena. Looking on is Sister Jane Louise, who, with Sister Peter, is a member of the Order of St. Joseph of Bourg. Mother Arocena belongs to the Daughters of Jesus. The nuns attribute their participation in the formation of priests to the "updating" of the role of Sisters in keeping with the changing status of women. Msgr. William D. Borders, the seminary's rector, said the nuns "will bring to the school feminine insight and the softening affective phases most lacking in all-male schools."
