- Text transcribed from caption: PC-30319 CATHOLIC OBSERVERS AT NATIONAL COUNCIL ASSEMBLY PHILADELPHIA -- Msgr. Joseph N. Moody of Highland Falls, N.Y., (left), and Msgr. Daniel Cantwell of Chicago (right) were two of five official Catholic observers at the triennial General Assembly of the National Council of Churches in Philadelphia. Msgr. Moody is head of Ladycliffe [sic] College’s Social Science Department, and Msgr. Cantwell is chaplain for the Catholic Council on Working Life and the Catholic Interracial Council of Chicago. They are shown with Dr. Franklin H. Littell of Chicago Theological Seminary, a major speaker at the assembly attended by representatives of 31 Protestant and Orthodox bodies. The other three Catholic observers were Father Benjamin Masse, S.J., of New York; Father Dennis J. Comey, S.J., of Philadelphia, and Msgr. John P. Connery of Overbrook, Pa. The visitors (seated, l. to r.) were the Rev. Samuel J. Williams, Calvary Baptist church, South Norwalk; the Rev. Nicholas Titus, executive secretary of the Connecticut Baptist Convention, Hartford; the Rev. William M. Philpot, Community Baptist church, New Haven; and (standing) the Rev. - Text transcribed from caption: C-31398 CEF LEADERS GREET JEWISH PHILOSOPHER PHILADELPHIA -- Officials of Citizens for Educational Freedom are shown as they greeted Dr. Will Herberg of Drew University, famed philosopher and author, at the CEF annual convention in Philadelphia. With him are Stuart Hubbell, left, a Catholic and prosecuting attorney of Travers City, Mich., who was elected president of the CEF, and Dr. Edwin H. Palmer of Westminster Theological Seminary, an independent Protestant school in Philadelphia. Dr. Palmer, a trustee of the group, won the annual CEF award for his contribution to the recognition of constitutional and civil rights of parents and children in church-related schools.
