- Two-way phones connect fund dinners.
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: P-32226 TWO-WAY PHONES CONNECT FUND DINNERS NEW YORK -- Dr. Franklin Clark Fry, president of the Lutheran Church in America, makes telephone contact with one of nine simultaneous dinners held in as many cities to open an $8 million fund campaign for relocation of the Lutheran Theological Seminary in downtown Philadelphia. Dr. Fry and Dr. Donald R. Heiges (center), president of the seminary, addressed the nine dinners from New York via the phone hookup. At right is Dr. Gunnar Knudsen of Reading, Pa., chairman of the board for the seminary. The board voted early in February to relocate the seminary, now in the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia, to “an urban-centered, university-oriented site.” Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (FRE-NY-3A-65-NBM)

- Chaplain to the wounded.
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: CHAPLAIN TO THE WOUNDED #1683 NEW YORK -- The end of the war and demobilization have altered some aspects of the Army chaplain work, but for some the job is still vital. Caring for the wounded in the hospitals is a task to which many churchmen in uniform are turning as a continuation of the work they performed so ably during the war. These four chaplains at Halloran General Hospital on Staten Island, are typical of the clergymen working in large army and veterans hospitals. They are left to right: Lt. Col. John M. Bellamy, Catholic, Massena, N.Y.; Capt. Aaron Blumenthal, Jewish, Houston, Texas; Lt. John D. Laida, Protestant, Syracuse, N.Y.; and Capt. Emanuel Carlsen, Protestant, Chicago.
