- Religion on the move.
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: RELIGION ON THE MOVE #3169 Shifting populations throughout the United States and Canada during the war years have made churchmen transportation conscious, and as a result they have turned to many different conveyances to bring God’s word to their flocks. The Rev. Gilbert Thompson, of Moose Factory, Ont., uses dogs and snowshoes to reach his congregation. He ministers to both whites and Cree Indians, the latter in their own tongue. They in turn translate his message into Eskimo for any of that race present. Mr. Thompson prefers travel by boat in the summer to dogs or snowshoes in winter. - Description
- Text transcribed from caption: PUNJAB SIKHS FORM COLORFUL COLONY #1545 VANCOUVER, B.C. -- Some 40 years ago pioneering Sikhs from Punjab came here and settled around Vancouver, New Westminster and Victoria. Although they have become successful businessmen and farmers, they have kept many of their Punjab ways, most evident of which is their religion. Here a venerable priest, barefooted and cross-legged, reads the Granth, the sacred book of the Sikhs.
