- Text transcribed from caption: SEVENTEEN YEARS BEFORE THE ‘MIKE’ #C-3463 WESTON, Mass. -- September is a significant month for the Rev. Michael J. Ahern, S.J., known throughout this area as “the Radio Priest.” He is beginning his 17th year before the microphone and his 50th year as a Jesuit. Professor of geology at Weston College here, Father Ahern formerly was president of Canisius College, Buffalo, N.Y. He is a member of the National Conference of Christians and Jews and recently returned from Oxford where he attended the first International Conference of Christians and Jews. - "Hoodlum priest" dies.

- Text transcribed from caption: C-29744 ‘HOODLUM PRIEST’ DIES ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Father Charles Dismas Clark, S.J., known as the “Hoodlum priest” for his work in rehabilitating former prison inmates, died in St. Louis after a long illness. He was 62. In 1959 he founded Dismas House here as a haven for ex-convicts. He is shown here before the institution named for the “good thief” crucified beside Christ. Father Clark also was responsible for setting up several other such centers in U.S. cities. - Text transcribed from caption: JESUIT EDITOR NAMED TO INTERFAITH POST #c-3073 NEW YORK -- The Rev. Allan P. Farrell, S.J., education director of America, Jesuit weekly, has been named Catholic co-chairman of the Commission of Religious Organizations of the National Conference of Christians and Jews. Among the commission’s tasks is the holding of clergy conferences across the nation, which bring together priests, ministers, and rabbis for development of local interfaith goodwill programs.
