- Title
- "Show business chapel."
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: PC-46620 ‘SHOW BUSINESS CHAPEL’ NEW YORK -- For Austin Miles, the term “show business chapel” has two meanings. It is the title of a series of 100 “spots” that the 40-year-old Assemblies of God minister has recorded in Detroit for national distribution through Video Associates, Inc. And it is also a description of the portable worship center that he takes with him on his travels as announcer for the Royal Lipizzan Stallion Show, “The Wonderful World of Horses.” As the first international show business chaplain of the Assemblies of God, Mr. Miles has brought a Christian witness to the horse show, as he had done earlier for several circuses he had served as ringmaster. “Show business people are no different from any other people in their basic needs,” he points out. “They’ve got problems, face temptations, have tough schedules. Even a glamorous performer needs assurance of the love of God.” Here, Mr. Miles (right) chats with G. Edward Nelson Jr. of the American Bible Society in the portable chapel he has set up in a Madison Square Garden dressing room. - Seminarians' racial Christmas card.
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: PC-31952 SEMINARIANS’ RACIAL CHRISTMAS CARD ST. PAUL, Minn. -- This unusual Christmas card was a result of the involvement of a group of seminarians in a racial justice project last summer in Mississippi. The greeting card reproduces a photo of a Negro boy in a Harlem slum. Participating in the racial project were about 100 students preparing for the priesthood at Nazareth Hall, minor seminary of the St. Paul archdiocese, in suburban Arden Hills. As a result of their work they were determined to have a “relevant” message dealing with racial justice on one of the Christmas card they prepare and sell annually. The card reads: “Christ is here. Go to meet Him. He is here…in His poor, in the afflicted, in the little ones, in those thirsting for justice, in His least brethren, in the crucified. Embrace Him.” Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (WT-MINN-12D-64-NAB)

- Title
- Audio recording of James Robinson's funeral service, 1972.
- Description
- Recording of November 10, 1972 funeral service, at Riverside Church (New York, N.Y.), of James Herman Robinson. Founder of Operation Crossroads Africa, Robinson was born in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1907, and educated in Cleveland, Ohio. He attended Lincoln University in Chester County, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Union Theological Seminary (New York, N.Y.) in 1938. As pastor of Harlem's Presbyterian Church of the Master, he organized a credit union, an early childhood education program, and upstate New York camps for Harlem's youth. As a member of the NAACP and the Urban League, Robinson was identified by the US State Department as a subversive, and threatened with revocation of his passport. Beginning in 1951, Robinson served the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. Board of Foreign Missions as a roving ambassador, visiting mission fields in Africa and Asia. In 1958, Robinson organized Operation Crossroads Africa under the auspices of COEMAR; the program sent American medical students to West Africa. At its peak, Crossroads Africa sent 350 students to 20 African nations. Robinson suffered three heart attacks in 1969, and died in 1972.
