The first group of 12 women are ordained to the ministry of the Swiss Evangelical Church in an historic ceremony in Zurich’s Grossmuenster Cathedral. Performing the rites is the Rev. R. It is the Sunday School at the Alleghany County Juvenile Home, sponsored by the Council of Churches and the Board of Directors, for neglected and delinquent children ranging from six to 18 years old. Between 70 and 80 children attend each Sunday, singing hymns, repeating scriptures, listening to Bible stories and worshipping at an altar (above) made by inmates of Western Penitentiary. - Text transcribed from caption: POLISH CHURCHMEN AT RECONSTRUCTION SESSIONS #R-3244 GENEVA -- The plight of the Polish Protestant Church was described by these three churchmen at meetings of the Department of Reconstruction and Inter-Church Aid of the World Council of Churches here. The Rev. Zygmunt Michelis, secretary of the Polish committee and Lutheran pastor from Warsaw (left), told the group that the Church in Poland is in a more serious plight than that of any other European country. Shown with Mr. Michelis are the Rev. Konstanty Najder, a Methodist (center), and the Rev. Leonid Jesakow, also a Methodist. They are respectively chairman and treasurer of the Polish committee.
