A resident of Berlin, Dr. Melle formerly was director of the Methodist Theological Seminary at Frankfurt am Main, largest free-church institute of its kind in Europe. One of the first Germans to visit the U.S. after World War 1, Bishop Melle often has been a delegate to the General Conference of the Methodist Church. KARL BARTH VISITS GERMANY FRANKFURT-ON-MAIN -- Dr. Karl Barth, famous Swiss theologian (with glasses) greets the family of Pastor Frick, aide of Pastor Martin Niemoeller in Frankfurt. Dr. Barth was returning from the conference of German Evangelical leaders at Treysa, It was his first visit to Germany since he was expelled from the University of Bonn in 1935 by order of Adolf Hitler. It was purchased by the Minneapolis Hospitality House as an aid in the expansion of church youth work in the Northwest. Included in the equipment is a loudspeaker which will enable the pilot to announce youth meeting while flying over towns and rural areas. - Text transcribed from caption: P-46226 COCU SESSION HEARS DR. NELSON CINCINNATI -- Dr. J. Robert Nelson, who recently resigned as dean of Boston University’s School of Theology but continues there as a professor, rises to tell the 12th Plenary of the nine-denomination Consultation on Church Union that they should avoid the pitfall of updating their theology in such a way that the new is as dated as the old. The noted United Methodist theologian was an observed at the COCU meeting in Cincinnati. Listening to him at left are Dr. William Thompson, stated clerk of the United Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A., and Mrs. Lois Stair, former moderator of the UPCUSA.
