- Text transcribed from caption: #858 CZECH CATHOLICS PAY HOMAGE TO ST. WENCESLAS For the first time since the German annexation, Prague Catholics staged traditional ceremonies to honor St. Wenceslas, protector of Czechoslovakia. Born in 908, Wenceslas, Duke of Bohemia, promoted the conversion of his country to Christianity, but as slain by his brother Boleslav in 929. Vicar Capitular Theophilus Opatrny is shown standing before the statue of St. Wenceslas during the ceremonies. WENCESLAS For the first time since the German annexation, Prague Catholics staged traditional ceremonies to honor St. Wenceslas, protector of Czechoslovakia. Born in 908, Wenceslas, Duke of Bohemia, promoted the conversion of his country to Christianity, but as slain by his brother Boleslav in 929. The remains of the saint are taken from the casket by Monsignor Bokal, secretary of the Prague archdiocese, preparatory to replacing them in the statue of St. Wenceslas which stands in a special chapel in Prague Cathedral. WENCESLAS For the first time since the German annexation, Prague Catholics staged traditional ceremonies to honor St. Wenceslas, protector of Czechoslovakia. Born in 908, Wenceslas, Duke of Bohemia, promoted the conversion of his country to Christianity, but as slain by his pagan brother Boleslav in 929. Monsignor Forni, secretary of the Papal Nunciature in Prague, is shown seated in the foreground during a Latin Mass in honor of St. Wenceslas. - Text transcribed from caption: #1017 CZECH CATHOLICS GIVE THANKS TO VIRGIN MARY PRAGUE -- Catholics in Prague held a week of thanksgiving to the Virgin Mary for the protection of the Czechoslovakian people during the war. Festivities centered around the Palladium, a bronze and jeweled medal of the Virgin and Child worn by St. Wenceslas, protector of Czechoslovakia, but lost for 200 years after his martyrdom in 929. Shown speaking at outdoor services is Prior Jerolimek [sic. Jarolimek] of the Premonstratensian monastery of Strahov, who is expected by many to be named the Archbishopric of Prague, vacant since 1941.
