- Council briefing for press.
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: C-30241 COUNCIL BRIEFING FOR PRESS ROME -- Details and significance of actions taken by the Second Vatican Council are explained to American journalists in Rome. Father Edward L. Heston, an English-language press officer for the Council, attends all meetings of Vatican II and gives oral briefings for 30 minutes daily to newsmen. He also publishes a news bulletin on Council developments for the press and U.S. hierarchy. A native of Ohio and a University of Notre Dame alumnus, Father Heston has been in Rome for 16 years. He is associated with the international headquarters of the Congregation of the Holy Cross. The second session of Vatican II differs drastically from the press assistance provided at the first session. Last year journalists were given given [sic] “cautiously informative bulletins,” says Father Heston, but “this year we tell them everything.” Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (ND-11D-63-W)

- Who me?
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: C-31925 WHO ME? ROME -- “I didn’t do it,” this startled three-year-old choir boy seems to be telling the photographer as he clutches a religious vessel. Age and wisdom -- in the person of 92-year-old Msgr. Giuseppe Pazzaglia -- comfort the boy, frightened by flash bulbs. The child, Francesco Ritrovato, marched in procession in Rome’s central Piazza di Spagna to the statue of the Virgin Mary in observance of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. The holy day was highlighted by a visit from Pope Paul VI who placed a wreath of flowers before the statue. Msgr. Pazzaglia, one of the oldest active Catholic priests in Italy, is attached to the St. Andrea delle Fratte church. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (K-12C-64-NAB)

- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: C-29880 POPE GREETS FOUNDER OF BOYS’ TOWNS CASTEL GANDOLFO, Italy -- Pope Paul VI greets the founder of the Boys’ Towns of Italy and his principal collaborators at the papal summer residence at Castel Gandolfo. Msgr. J. Patrick Carroll-Abbing has founded 40 institutions for homeless boys throughout Italy. Pope Paul expressed his admiration for the Irish priest’s program, which began 19 years ago when he found hundreds of children left homeless and fatherless by the war. “The blessing of God is obviously upon this work,” the pontiff said. “I may visit Boys’ Town soon,” he added, referring to the institution in Rome. Pope Paul also expressed pleasure at the cooperation of the American Committees for Boys’ Towns. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (JA-RO-9B-63-W)
