- Text transcribed from caption: #443 ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY DEDICATES FIRST MOTOR CHURCHES England....This is one of two motor churches recently dedicated by the Lord Archbishop of Canterbury. They are the first two motor churches in the long history of St. George and St. Paul. Each of the “churches on wheels” will carry its own minister, beside the man at the wheel. - Text transcribed from caption: PC-31863 BELGIAN ROYALTY COMFORTS NUN BRUSSELS -- Sister Anne Marie Merkens, rescued from Congolese rebels, is comforted by Belgian King Baudouin and Queen Fabiola on arrival at the Brussels airport. The Catholic nun was among many whites rescued from the hands of rebels in Stanleyville by Belgian paratroops. Sister Anne Marie told the Associated Press that she and other nuns had been forced by the rebels to parade down a street in Basoto, near Stanleyville. - Text transcribed from caption: C-31998 CONGO SURVIVORS GREETED BY POPE VATICAN CITY -- Pope Paul VI had a special greeting at a general audience for a group of nuns who escaped the massacre of missionaries at Wamba in the Congo. The Italian nuns are members of the Missionary Sisters of Verona. Other missionaries, including priest and Sisters, were in the general audience of some 1,000 persons in the Vatican’s Hall of Benedictions. - The first displaced persons to be allowed to enter the United States under the new congressional act, begin to file aboard the U.S. Army transport General Black at Bremerhaven, Germany, Oct. 21. The DPs coming to America on the ship represent 11 nations and number 813 persons. Speeches by military and civic personages and a concert by an army band marked the sailing of the "Ship of Freedom." - Text transcribed from caption: C-30762 EXPELLED NUNS CONTINUE ARRIVAL IN ROME ROME -- Nun missionaries expelled from Sudan's southern provinces form a stream of white habits as they arrive at Rome's Fiumicino airport. They were part of about 200 Catholic missionaries -- most of them Italian -- reaching Rome from the predominately Muslim nation. In all about 300 Catholics and Protestant missionaries are being forced out of Sudan after being charged with anti-state activities. The accusation has been vehemently denied by the missionaries. - Text transcribed from caption: #760 LONDON MISSIONARY SOCIETY OBSERVES 150TH ANNIVERSARY The 150th anniversary of the London Missionary Society was observed in the British Capital with a week of special meetings. Since its founding in London during September, 1795, the Society has commissioned 1,800 men and women to serve in India, China, Africa, Madagascar, Papua and the South Seas, and has spent about 55 million dollars. Top half of photo shows the Lord and Lady Mayoress of London receiving Chief Seretse Khama, hereditary chieftain of the Bamangwato people of Bechuanaland, S. Africa, whose grandfather, Chief Khama, attended the Centenary meetings of the Society. The Lord and Lady Mayoress are both active in the Society’s work.
