He was presented with a purse of $1,000 by Msgr. Joseph B. Lux for “whatever mission work the cardinal desires in China.” It was the gift of the Catholic Church Extension Society. High spot will be the West Central Africa Regional Conference on Missions at Leopoldville, Belgian Congo, July 13-24. Dr. Ross served as a missionary in Africa from 1912-1933. - Text transcribed from caption: C-3914 PRIEST MAKES PARISH CALLS IN JEEP NEW YORK -- Jeep-riding is no new experience for the Rev. Walter T. McNamara, assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in the Bronx, who makes all his parish calls in his newly-acquired vehicle. He was a U.S. Army chaplain in Europe, and was on the long trek from England trough France, Belgium and Germany. Father McNamara obtained his jeep through the War Assets Administration when, unable to secure an automobile, he exercised his priority as a veteran to buy one of its surplus Army cars. - Text transcribed from caption: #C-4479 MEDICAL MISSION SISTERS TURN PRINTERS PHILADELPHIA -- Practical work is no stranger to the Medical Mission Sisters who work in the Order’s motherhouse in the Fox Chase district here. In its printing plant is printed all the stationery and literature necessary for the promotion of the Mission Sisters’ work. Feeding the press is Sister Mary Winifred, behind her Sister Mary Andrew. The Order was founded in 1925 by Mother Anna Dengel, M.D. It aids in extending medical science to the women of the Far East, particularly in India where the sisters have three hospitals, all staffed by Mission Sisters. There are 60 postulants and novices at the Mother House here, many of whom will serve as doctors, nurses and technicians or in other professions.
