- For Maryknoll's sisters: Variety.
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: C-30416 FOR MARYKNOLL’S SISTERS: VARIETY (Second of Two Pictures) MARYKNOLL, N.Y. -- Variety -- and continuing education -- is a part of the Maryknoll Sisters’ life. As mission needs change, as new problems develop Maryknoll acts to train its Sisters for 20th Century service. Typical are these Sisters, now in American and Canadian universities and colleges, for special training. Top row, from left: 1. Sister Blanche Marie; she’s studying anthropology at Harvard University; 2. Sister Mary Agneta, one of Maryknoll’s Negro Sisters; she’s completing work for her B.S. in dietetics at Fontbonne College, St. Louis; 3. Sister Grace Frances; once a research assistant on a radiation project supported by the Atomic Energy Commission, she’s at the University of Notre Dame, working toward a Ph.D. in chemistry; 4. Sister Marie Clementia; back from mission work on the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean, she’s seeking her M.A. in education at the Catholic University of America. Bottom row, from left: 1. Sister Marian David; she’s at St. Vincent’s Hospital, New York, completing her internship toward a Ph.D. in psychology; 2. Sister Ruth Patrice, who saw mission service in Bolivia; she’s studying for her M.S. in nursing at St. Louis University; 3. Sister Marian James, a student at the Coady International Institute at Antigonish, Nova Scotia, she’ll establish Korean credit union on her graduation. 4. Sister Michele Christine, she’s at the University of Hawaii, studying Chinese to prepare her for work in the Asian mission field. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (DR-OS-1B-64-W)

- "You name it; we study it"
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: C-30415 ‘YOU NAME IT; WE STUDY IT’ (First of Two Pictures) MARYKNOLL, N.Y. -- “You name it; we study it” is the way the Maryknoll Sisters explain their unprecedented interest in educating themselves for unusual, often spectacular, careers in the mission field. Sixty-four Sisters are now currently enrolled in U.S. universities here and abroad; quite often their continuing education program is carried on between trips to the foreign missions field. Sister Maria Del Rey, shown with a friendly elephant at a mission post, is now a student at Columbia University; she’s seeking her M.S. in journalism. At top right, Sister Mary Ann Fidelis checks a baby’s health at a Pusan, Korea, hospital; today, however, she is a full-fledged medical doctor, completing her residency at Carney Hospital, Boston. At lower right, Sister Virginia Mary is shown as she helped a little Panamanian girl at a mission school; now she’s at New York University, following studies in art education. - Text transcribed from caption: CATHOLIC MEDICAL MISSIONS #c-2019 NEW YORK -- Never before have mission demands been greater than today, both in the religious and in the medical field. At the headquarters here of the Catholic Medical Mission Board, medical supplies and equipment by the ton are sent out yearly to distant mission stations all over the world. But as this photo shows, the board also aids spiritually. Here the Rev. Edward F.
