Dr. Carlson was a 1949 graduate of the college’s two-year program and served in the Congo for the Evangelical Covenant Church of America, which owns and operates the college. North Park President Karl A. Olsson, announcing the memorial, said that “students who attend classes in the Carlson Tower will be reminded of the Christian Gospel for which Paul E. Carlson lived and died and which has moved other missionaries to give themselves to the world in selfless devotion.” Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (NP-CI-2B-65-NBM)

- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: #28 METHODIST CHURCH CONGREGATION INTRODUCES NOVEL WAY OF RAISING POST-WAR FUNDS FOR MISSIONARIES Alton, Ill...The congregation of the First Methodist Church of this city, in its effort to raise money for the "Crusade for Christ," a Methodist movement to provide post-war funds for missionaries to re-enter foreign fields, has rolled up its sleeves, slipped into aprons and gone into the toy manufacturing business in the basement of the church. The work of turning out the toys is speeded up by applying "assembly line" methods. All the tools used are loaned by members of the "Young Married Couple" class. Lumber and paint were purchased in quantity, and as this series of exclusive photos shows, everyone is having a wonderful time in this novel fund-raising movement. - Description
- Text transcribed from caption: BAPTIST RETIRE CHAPEL CAR #S-3420 CHICAGO, Ill. -- Chicago’s Baptists have bidden farewell to one of the last vestiges of a vanishing era in American life--a “chapel” car. A historic relic of Frontier Christianity, the “church on wheels” owned by the Northern Baptist Convention was on exhibition here before making its last trip to the convention’s assembly ground at Green Lake, Wisconsin. Known as “Grace” the car contained pulpit, organ, pews for 65 worshippers and a three-room apartment for the minister and his family. Standing beside the car here are the Rev. and Mrs. Howard Parry who used the car at Provo, Utah for two years. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (PA-NY-LM-5A-6-W-B)

- Title
- Baptist retire chapel car.
