- Description
- Kasai, Republic of the Congo - 10 August 1960. Some 11,500 soldiers from nine countries are now on duty with the U.N. Force in the Republic of the Congo, helping to restore order ad calm in the country. Assistance also includes technical and medical personnel, air transport, food, heavy materials and various supplies. For example, a food distribution was organized for the victims of the intertribal fight between the Luluas and Balubas in Kasai province. The food was sent by U.N. cargo aircraft from Leopoldville to Luluebourg, provincial capital of Kasai. Here, the food packages have been unloaded from the U.N. plane by Tunisian troops of the U.N. Force.

- Title
- View of the Congo River at Matadi.
- Description
- View of Congo River at Matadi looking down river. 1 is the old B.M.S. station of Underhill where Lapsley is buried. 2 is the Swedish mission of Laundi. The great Congo River holds the moral remains of Slaymaker. At the point marked 1 Underhill, the river turns at a sharp angle where it is very narrow, swift and dangerous. The place is known as the "Devils Cauldron" and well deserves its name.
