View of Congo River at Matadi looking down river. 1 is the old B.M.S. station of Underhill where Lapsley is buried. 2 is the Swedish mission of Laundi. The great Congo River holds the moral remains of Slaymaker. At the point marked 1 Underhill, the river turns at a sharp angle where it is very narrow, swift and dangerous. The place is known as the "Devils Cauldron" and well deserves its name.
