- Text transcribed from caption: P-32233 PRESBYTERIAN MODERATORS AT SERVICE NEW YORK -- A vesper service in New York’s Fifth Avenue Presbyterian church was hailed as an important milestone in the effort toward greater Presbyterian unity since it was led by moderators of the major northern and southern branches of the denomination. Greeting worshippers after the colorful event are Dr. Edler Hawkins (right) of New York, the first Negro to become spiritual leader of the United Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A., and Dr. Felix Gear of Decatur, Ga., moderator of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S. (Southern).
