- Text transcribed from caption: C-29673 AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Christ Child Society, a Catholic women’s group in Cleveland, has started a program of scholarships for Negro boys entering Catholic high schools. The scholarships cover tuition, fees and books, and are for four years, with a total value of $1,000 each. Mrs. William Townsend, Christ Child president, is shown presenting the scholarships to the first three winners: Maurice Bertrand, and Victor and Richard Cohea. The boys graduated from St. Thomas Elementary School in Cleveland. The society said it will award two or three scholarships each year to outstanding students.
