- Leon Fanniel interviewed by Beth Shalom Hessel, 2017.
- Description
- Leon Fanniel, Presbyterian musician, administrator, and minister, was born in 1930 in Kansas City, Mo., and graduated from Huston-Tillotson College (Austin, Tex.), George Williams College (Chicago, Ill.), and McCormick Theological Seminary. He was ordained by the Presbytery of Chicago in 1969. Fanniel was executive of the Synod of Southern California and Hawaii in 1971-1972, and became the first executive director of the General Assembly Mission Council, serving from 1972 to 1975. Fanniel served as pastor of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church (Los Angeles, Calif.) from 1975 to 1996. He died December 20, 2018 in Pasadena, California.

- Presbyterian Historical Society Records Archivist David Staniunas interviews Robert E. Wilson, vice-moderator of the 217th Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) General Assembly in Birmingham, Alabama, 2006. Wilson was born on January 23, 1939 in Gastonia, N.C., and raised in the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. Barred from professional employment by segregation in North Carolina, Wilson found federal civil service work at the Picatinny Arsenal in Dover, N.J., in 1961. He and Patricia Isles were married on June 17, 1961. The couple joined Ironia Presbyterian Church (Ironia, N.J.) in 1963. Wilson retired from the federal civil service in 1995. In 2001, he served as president of the National Council of Presbyterian Men.

- Edwin Bethea oral history part 1, 2023.
- Description
- Interview (part one) conducted by Sonia Prescott with Edwin Ayres Bethea and Wendell Charles Love on July 3, 2023. Edwin was born in Birmingham, Alabama on May 15, 1931 to Monroe Ayres Bethea and Marzetta Pressley Bethea. Edwin spent his early childhood years with his grandparents and other paternal family members in Millers Ferry, Wilcox County, Alabama. Calvin B. Bethea (born 1863) and Annie McArthur Bethea (born 1868), Edwin’s paternal grandparents, were sharecroppers on the properties of Judge William Henderson in Millers Ferry. Edwin was educated in one of the six mission schools in Wilcox County supported by the Freedman’s Bureau and the United Presbyterian Church of North America. As his parents had been before him, Edwin was a student at the Millers Ferry Normal and Industrial School. In the interviews, Edwin provides a firsthand account of the Black Presbyterian experience in Wilcox County.

- Interview (part two) conducted by Sonia Prescott with Edwin Ayres Bethea and Wendell Charles Love on July 3, 2023. Edwin was born in Birmingham, Alabama on May 15, 1931 to Monroe Ayres Bethea and Marzetta Pressley Bethea. Edwin spent his early childhood years with his grandparents and other paternal family members in Millers Ferry, Wilcox County, Alabama. Calvin B. Bethea (born 1863) and Annie McArthur Bethea (born 1868), Edwin’s paternal grandparents, were sharecroppers on the properties of Judge William Henderson in Millers Ferry. Edwin was educated in one of the six mission schools in Wilcox County supported by the Freedman’s Bureau and the United Presbyterian Church of North America. As his parents had been before him, Edwin was a student at the Millers Ferry Normal and Industrial School. In the interviews, Edwin provides a firsthand account of the Black Presbyterian experience in Wilcox County.

- Bettie J. Durrah is a Presbyterian elder, born in Newman, Georgia, a fourth-generation African American Presbyterian. She completed a bachelor's degree in Biology at Spelman College, and holds two master's degrees, from Clark Atlanta University and Georgia State University. From 1995 to 2004 she served in the PC(USA) Women's Ministries as national staff in the Synods of Living Waters, Mid-Atlantic, South Atlantic, and Trinity. An elder at Radcliffe Presbyterian Church (Atlanta, Ga.), she has served as moderator of Presbyterian Women at congregation, presbytery, and synod levels; as moderator of the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta; and was a commissioner to the 2000 General Assembly.
