She completed a bachelor's degree in Biology at Spelman College, and holds two master's degrees, from Clark Atlanta University and Georgia State University. From 1995 to 2004 she served in the PC(USA) Women's Ministries as national staff in the Synods of Living Waters, Mid-Atlantic, South Atlantic, and Trinity. An elder at Radcliffe Presbyterian Church (Atlanta, Ga.), she has served as moderator of Presbyterian Women at congregation, presbytery, and synod levels; as moderator of the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta; and was a commissioner to the 2000 General Assembly.
