- Text transcribed from caption: C-31529 THEIR GOAL: THE RELIGIOUS LIFE CLEVELAND (RNS) -- Three members of the Joseph Curry family of Cleveland will enter religious life within the next few months, thereby writing an unusual chapter in the religious formation of a family. Joseph Jr., left, first to convert to the Catholic Church four years ago, will enter St. Joseph College (Collegeville, Ind.) to begin studies as a Brother of the Society of the Precious Blood. His younger brother James will enter Brunnerdale Seminary, Canton, to study for the priesthood in the same order. Sometime after the first of the year, Diane will go to Cincinnati to enter the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd. - Text transcribed from caption: P-31300 NEW METHODIST BISHOPS IN NORTH CENTRAL AREA CLEVELAND -- Five new Methodist bishops, including the second Negro bishop in the denomination’s history to be named to a predominantly white area, were consecrated at the quadrennial meeting of the North Central Jurisdiction at Cleveland, Ohio. Elected by the all-Negro Central Jurisdiction, Bishop James S. Thomas was transferred to the North Central Jurisdiction, where he will supervise the Iowa episcopal area with residency in Des Moines. Other bishops elected by the North Central Jurisdiction, from left to right, are Bishop Thomas M. Pryor, formerly of Kalamazoo, Mich., assigned to the Chicago area; Bishop Dwight E. Loder, formerly of Evanston, Ill., Michigan area; Bishop Lance Webb, formerly of Columbus, Ohio, Illinois area; Bishop Franis E. Kearns, formerly of Wauwatosa, Wis., Ohio East area. - Text transcribed from caption: P-30906 CLEVELAND CHURCH BECOMES ‘FREEDOM SCHOOL’ CLEVELAND -- Cleveland public school students, absent from their regular classes during a boycott in behalf of integration, nevertheless spend their day in a classroom atmosphere. The youngsters are getting a lesson in the meaning of the civil rights movement at a “Freedom School” at the Friendship Baptist church.
