- Text transcribed from caption: P-31792 INDIA CHRISTIAN LEADER NAMED VISITING PROFESSOR NEW YORK -- Dr. J. Russell Chandran, principal of the United Theological College in Bangalore, India, has been appointed Henry W. Luce Visiting Professor of World Christianity at Union Theological Seminary in New York for 1964-65. Announcing the appointment, Dr. John C. Bennett, seminary president, hailed the Church of South India clergyman-educator as “one of the most influential Christian leaders in India.” Dr. Chandran has been a leader of Faith and Order activities of the World Council of Churches, serving as vice-president of the Faith and Order Commission. He is also a member of the WCC’s policy-making Central Committee. Principal of the Bangalore college, he also teaches systematic theology and Christian ethics. Among those who took part in the program were Dr. Reinhold Niebuhr, professor of applied Christianity, Union Theological Seminary; the Rev. Reuben W. Coleman, executive secretary of the Commission on the Church’s Ministry to Returning Servicemen and Women of the Federal Council of Churches, and Dr. Robbins W.
