- Text transcribed from caption: P-30651 CHURCH SERVICES PLANNED TO PRESS FOR CIVIL RIGHTS BALTIMORE, Md. -- If the pending civil rights bill hasn't been passed by Easter, daily worship services to express support of the legislation will begin in Washington, D.C. churches in the following week, it was announced at a meeting of the General Board of the National Council of Churches at Baltimore. Dr. Robert W. Spike, executive director of the NCC's Commission on Religion and Race, and Dr. Anna Hedgeman, director of special events for the commission, called for the services by Protestant and Orthodox churches. They said other religions may join in sponsoring the worship and prayer demonstration, participating in an initial mass meeting and then holding their own services. - Description
- On July 4, 1963, the stated clerk of the UPCUSA, Eugene Carson Blake, was jailed in Baltimore, Maryland, for trespassing. Along with 283 activists from the Council on Racial Equality and the Baltimore Clergymen's Interfaith Committee, Blake had challenged the owners of Gwynn Oak Amusement Park to desegregate.

- Clergyman arrested in anti-segregation fight.
- Description
- Protestant, Catholic and Jewish clergymen have been among some 300 persons arrested in a series of efforts to integrate the privately owned Gwynn Oak Amusement Park. In one of the anti-segregation demonstrations outside the park, a minister donned a red, white and blue "Uncle Sam" outfit to symbolize the fight for racial equality. He was promptly arrested on trespassing charges. The clergyman, the Rev. David Andrews, assistant chaplain at Morgan State College, is shown here being taken into custody by police.

- Text transcribed from caption: PC-31023 DEMONSTRATORS PRAY BEFORE DISPERSING CAMBRIDGE, Md. -- A Roman Catholic priest leads demonstrators in prayer at Cambridge, Md., as they prepare to disperse. The group, which included Protestant and Catholic clergymen, had gathered at the courthouse to protest the arrest of a demonstration leader, Mrs. Gloria Richardson, a Negro. Leading the prayers is Father Louis Jaramillo of the Catholic University of America. To his right is Brig. Gen. G. M.
