- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: AT PROTESTANT MOVIE COUNCIL EVENT #S-1935 NEW YORK -- Dr. Daniel A. Poling, president of the International Christian Endeavor Union (left), and Raymond Massey, stage and screen actor (right), principal speakers at the first annual luncheon given here by the Protestant Motion Picture Council, confer with Rabbi Arthur J. Rosenbaum of the American Jewish Committee. The council is sponsored by The Christian Herald. Dr. Poling warned that unless America’s publishers “eliminate the lewdness being unloaded upon the American reading public” they face control more stringent than that exercised over the movies. Massey said America’s church people should tell Hollywood the kind of pictures it wants produced before the pictures are made, thus averting a defense by the movie makers after they have expended millions of dollars on pictures deemed offensive.
