Description
-
Text transcribed from caption: #28 METHODIST CHURCH CONGREGATION INTRODUCES NOVEL WAY OF RAISING POST-WAR FUNDS FOR MISSIONARIES Alton, Ill...The congregation of the First Methodist Church of this city, in its effort to raise money for the "Crusade for Christ," a Methodist movement to provide post-war funds for missionaries to re-enter foreign fields, has rolled up its sleeves, slipped into aprons and gone into the toy manufacturing business in the basement of the church. The work of turning out the toys is speeded up by applying "assembly line" methods. All the tools used are loaned by members of the "Young Married Couple" class. Lumber and paint were purchased in quantity, and as this series of exclusive photos shows, everyone is having a wonderful time in this novel fund-raising movement. Text transcribed from caption: #09 THE OAK TREE WHERE JOHN AND CHARLES WESLEY PREACHED THEIR FAITH TO THE SETTLERS, OVER TWO HUNDRED YEARS AGO St. Simons Island, Ga...More than two centuries ago, John and his brother Charles Wesley preached their faith to the settlers beneath the branches of this oak tree. Here in the shade of the same tree, we see members of the Naval Air Station located on the island attending an INTERFAITH service, conducted by Navy Chaplain Lt. (jg) E.L. Allen, singing the hymns written by Charles Wesley, before the birth of the United States of America. CREDIT SHOULD READ: Official U.S. Navy Photo from Religious News Service.

The Lutheran Cathedral at Uppsala, Sweden.
-
Description
-
Text transcribed from caption: #03 THE LUTHERAN CATHEDRAL AT UPPSALA, SWEDEN The Lutheran Church of Sweden is a national establishment. The clergy of the Church are salaried by the State. The Church Assembly meets regularly at five year intervals. Sweden is divided into thirteen dioceses, presided over by bishops. The Bishop of Uppsala has the title archbishop yet assumes no hierarchical privileges. He is instead a kind of presiding bishop in the Church of Sweden. The Lutheran Reformation came to Sweden through Olavus Petri who had been a student of Martin Luther in Wittenberg. Uppsala has been the seat of the Primate of Sweden ever since the establishment of the Archbishopric in 1164. CREDIT LINE MUST READ: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO
