- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: #44 CHRISTIAN TEACHERS ON OKINAWA A group of high school teachers, all Christians who teach in the schools established at Shimmabuke, Okinawa [sic. Shimabuku, Okinawa], where Shosei Kina acts as the superintendent. He is one of the original converts to Christianity as a result of a brief visit to the island by a visiting Methodist missionary enroute to Japan. Before his departure, the missionary presented to Shosei a Bible in the Japanese language. This Bible is still being used by him in spreading the Gospel to his followers. - Text transcribed from caption: #43 CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY OF OKINAWA Chaplain Roy N. Hillyer, senior chaplain of the Tenth Army on Okinawa (seated at center of table) with leaders of the Christian community at Shimmabuke, Okinawa [sic. Shimabuku, Okinawa]. The two men at the right of the table were originally converted by a Methodist missionary who spent a short time on the island, thirty years ago, while enroute to Japan.
