She worked under the handicap of being unable to understand English, the announcer's words being translated. - Government and church leaders at World Order Parley, Cleveland, O.--Among principals at the Fifth World Order Study Conference here were these four government and church leaders. Shown left to right are: Methodist G. Bromley Oxnam of Washington, D.C.; Secretary of State John Foster Dulles; Dr. Edwin T. Dahlberg of St. Louis, Mo., president of the National Council of Churches; and Ernest A. Gross of New York, chairman of the four-day meeting and former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. The conference was sponsored by the National Council's Department of International Affairs of which Mr. Gross is chairman. Its theme was "Christian Responsibility on a Changing Planet."

Bruce William Klunder, a white Presbyterian minister and civil rights activist who died after he was run over by a bulldozer while protesting the construction of a segregated school in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Blake delivered the eulogy at Klunder's funeral services at Church of the Covenant.

- Text transcribed from caption: P-30906 CLEVELAND CHURCH BECOMES ‘FREEDOM SCHOOL’ CLEVELAND -- Cleveland public school students, absent from their regular classes during a boycott in behalf of integration, nevertheless spend their day in a classroom atmosphere. The youngsters are getting a lesson in the meaning of the civil rights movement at a “Freedom School” at the Friendship Baptist church. - Text transcribed from caption: C-31004 DOLLS PROMOTE RELIGIOUS VOCATIONS CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Dolls representing the 41 women’s religious communities in the Cleveland diocese are exhibited in several of the city’s downtown stores. The exhibit of the figures, dressed authentically by the congregations they represent, was sponsored by the Theresians, a group of women dedicated to promoting vocations to the Sisterhoods. Shown placing the dolls in a bank window are Mrs. Edward J. Conrad, vocations director of the Theresians, and her granddaughter, Donna Steiger. Ward, assistant at St. Monica Catholic church in Cleveland, uses a helicopter to take some unusual motion picture shots of diocesan educational centers. The priest took his movie hobby high in the sky to make a film in connection with Vocation Month in October. It will be shown in Cleveland television stations. Interested in photography since he was 15, Father Ward has made motion pictures for the Grail Movement in Cincinnati and last year filmed a trip to Europe. - Text transcribed from caption: C-31385 WINNING ORATOR CLEVELAND, Ohio (RNS) -- Maureen O'Connor, 17, a junior at Dommican [Dominican] Commercial High School, Jamaica, N.Y., was the winning girl orator at the Catholic War Veterans convention, winning a $25 savings bond and this trophy from Walter D. Hyle Jr., national commander. Seven finalists were flown from their home cities to compete in the finals at Cleveland. Winning boy was Richard Cramblitt, a June graduate of Towson Catholic High School, Towson, Md. - Text transcribed from caption: C-31529 THEIR GOAL: THE RELIGIOUS LIFE CLEVELAND (RNS) -- Three members of the Joseph Curry family of Cleveland will enter religious life within the next few months, thereby writing an unusual chapter in the religious formation of a family. Joseph Jr., left, first to convert to the Catholic Church four years ago, will enter St. Joseph College (Collegeville, Ind.) to begin studies as a Brother of the Society of the Precious Blood. His younger brother James will enter Brunnerdale Seminary, Canton, to study for the priesthood in the same order. Sometime after the first of the year, Diane will go to Cincinnati to enter the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd.
