- Art cracks one apartheid barrier.
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: PC-31811 ART CRACKS ONE APARTHEID BARRIER JOHANNESBURG, So. Africa -- This 40-year-old African artist has been responsible for a major “breakthrough” in the Union of South Africa. Gladys Mgudlandlu was given a “one-woman show” which exhibited her art to the country which follows a policy of strict “apartheid” or racial segregation. A mixed throng of 200, whites and native Africans, attended the opening of her show, one which exhibited some 100 paintings of the country’s best known non-white woman artist.
