- Solace for the weary.
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: SOLACE FOR THE WEARY #3393 LOS ANGELES -- Grace Cathedral’s Wayside Shrine of St. Francis -- a tiny chapel seating only 12 persons -- is open here 24 hours a day for those seeking rest and spiritual meditation. A year ago it was a shabby little shack, but Canon Charles Shreve dreamed of making it a place of refuge for men and women of all religions and creeds. The Shrine cost $3,000, all of it contributed within a space of two weeks. John de Rosen, famous muralist, after spending an hour in the Shrine, offered to paint the meeting of St. Francis and the beggar over the altar free of charge. - Bus solves evangelists' housing shortage.
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: BUS SOLVES EVANGELISTS’ HOUSING SHORTAGE #s3519 LOS ANGELES -- Ten members of the Libbey family, touring evangelists, are shown on the “back porch” of their rolling home. They travel from state to state presenting programs of religious music in different churches. The entire family is musical, including 82-year-old Grandfather, who plays the drums. The bus was bought five years ago after being honorably retired by the Los Angeles transportation system. It has been converted into living quarters by installing Pullman-style berths in the lower deck that fold out of the ceiling. When the berths come down, curtains automatically fall over the windows. The upper deck is used to store musical instruments and for cooking and eating when the weather is fine. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (ANH-LA-MES-5B-6-W)
