Text transcribed from caption: #4265 WORLD’S MOST SENSITIVE SEISMOGRAPH WESTON, Mass. -- Seismology, the science of earthquake phenomena, is now benefitting from the use of the most accurate seismograph yet made, the Benioff seismograph. This one at Weston College is one of three in existence. Shown here checking the apparatus, which recorded the recent West Indies quake, are the Rev. Daniel Linehan, S. J. (left), chief seismologist at Weston, and the Rev. James I. Monagle, S. J., his assistant. (One of a series) Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (ELM-BOS-MES-8C-6-RO-C)

Text transcribed from caption: #4267 RECORDED ‘FRISCO QUAKE WESTON, Mass. -- Still in operation at Weston College here is this primitive Bosch-Omorri seismograph which recorded the San Francisco earthquake of 1906. Text transcribed from caption: #4268 QUAKE RECORD CHECKED BY SEISMOLOGISTS WESTON, Mass. -- Recordings of the recent earthquake in the West Indies are checked at Weston College here by the Rev. Daniel Linehan, S. J. (seated) chief seismologist, and his assistant, the Rev. James I. Monagle, S. J. Seismology, the study of earthquake phenomena, is an exact science, with mathematical precision a necessity, as the slide rule in Father Linehan’s hand proves.
