- A sermon in lights.
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: C-32232 A SERMON IN LIGHTS ESSEN, Germany -- News of the Church is flashed in lights for Catholics of Essen, Germany. First installation of its type by a church, the moving messages are similar to news bulletins carried on the old New York Times building in New York. During the course of the day passersby watch sermons-in-capsule, Biblical quotations, and Church news move across the top of a building. Bishop Franz Hengsbach of Essen authorized the unusual project. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (P-NY-3A-65-W)

- Crown of barbed wire thorns underlines Kirchentag theme.
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: P-29679 CROWN OF BARBED WIRE THORNS UNDERLINES KIRCHENTAG THEME DORTMUND, Germany -- “To Live With Conflicts,” the theme of the 11th German Evangelical Church Day (Kirchentag) Congress at Dortmund, Germany, was dramatically underlined in a huge poster holding a crown of thorns, constructed of barbed wire. The absence of East German Protestants at the four-day rally, for the first time in its history, was the occasion for prayers for spiritual unity among Christians and the eventual reunification of the divided nation.
