- "Agnus dei, qui tollis peccata mundi"
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: C-30392 ‘AGNUS DEI, QUI TOLLIS PECCATA MUNDI’ ROME -- “Lamb of God, who takest away the sins of the world…” Pope Paul VI raises a white lamb presented to him by children outside the Church of St. Michael the Archangel in the Roman workers’ community of Pietralata. The pontiff had celebrated a Christmas morning Mass at the humble church on the outskirts of the city. Earlier, at a traditional Mass for diplomats in the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel, the Pope stressed the need for peace. He emphasized this theme at Pietralata and later when addressing the throngs in St. Peter’s Square. On Christmas Day, Pope Paul also visited 300 crippled children. - Council briefing for press.
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: C-30241 COUNCIL BRIEFING FOR PRESS ROME -- Details and significance of actions taken by the Second Vatican Council are explained to American journalists in Rome. Father Edward L. Heston, an English-language press officer for the Council, attends all meetings of Vatican II and gives oral briefings for 30 minutes daily to newsmen. He also publishes a news bulletin on Council developments for the press and U.S. hierarchy. A native of Ohio and a University of Notre Dame alumnus, Father Heston has been in Rome for 16 years. He is associated with the international headquarters of the Congregation of the Holy Cross. The second session of Vatican II differs drastically from the press assistance provided at the first session. Last year journalists were given given [sic] “cautiously informative bulletins,” says Father Heston, but “this year we tell them everything.” Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (ND-11D-63-W)

Pope Paul expressed his admiration for the Irish priest’s program, which began 19 years ago when he found hundreds of children left homeless and fatherless by the war. “The blessing of God is obviously upon this work,” the pontiff said. “I may visit Boys’ Town soon,” he added, referring to the institution in Rome.
