- Ohio ministers' letters, 1820-1851.
- Description
- Collection consists of 16 letters, many between Presbyterian ministers, chiefly Samuel Crothers of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. Chillcothe Presbytery. Topics include meetings of presbytery, family news, and abolitionist sentiment in the Synod of Cincinnati. Samuel Crothers, Presbyterian minister and antislavery activist, was born October 20, 1783 in Chambersburg, Pa. He attended preparatory school in Lexington, Ky. and trained in theology with John Mason of New York, N.Y. In 1820, Crothers became pastor of Presbyterian Church (Greenfield, Ohio). He preached in favor of temperance, opposed the Old School / New School schism, and preached and wrote extensively against slavery. Crothers died in Oswego, Ill., July 2, 1856.

- Advisory Council on Church and Society statement on Israel and Palestine, 1974.
- Description
- The 183rd United Presbyterian Church General Assembly (1971) recommended that the Council on Church and Society prepare background material and recommendations on the Middle East question for consideration at the 184th General Assembly (1972). The Council subsequently created a Middle East Task Force to undertake the study and provide the Council a report that was to include a quality background paper that reviews the history of the conflict, clearly delineates the positions of the parties, highlights realistic possibilities for a durable settlement, and provides a Christian theological frame of reference. Includes correspondence from Dean H. Lewis, Director of the Advisory Council on Church and Society to Ben Weir about the report.
