- Text transcribed from caption: C-30238 THE TOPIC: RELIGIOUS FREEDOM, RELATIONS WITH JEWS VATICAN CITY (RNS) -- Two famed prelates confer in St. Peter’s Basilica before a meeting of the Second Vatican Council on two important documents submitted by the Vatican Secretariat for Promoting Christian Unity. Augustin Cardinal Bea, left, president of the Secretariat, proposed a decree designed to improve Catholic-Jewish relations and a member of his staff introduced the draft on religious liberty. Albert Gregory Cardinal Meyer, Archbishop of Chicago, was a leader among prelates who called for adoption of the drafts at congregations of the Council. - Text transcribed from caption: PC-31671 POPE RECEIVES COUNCIL OBSERVERS AND GUESTS VATICAN CITY -- Pope Paul VI received some 70 Protestant and Eastern Orthodox delegate-observers and guests attending the Vatican Council’s third session, and was introduced to each churchman individually. Shown here are, left to right: Dr. William B. Blakemore, dean of the Disciples of Divinity House, University of Chicago; Dr. William G. Baker, lecturer in practical theology, Scottish Congregational College, Edinburgh, Scotland; Augustin Cardinal Bea, president of the Vatican Secretariat for Promoting Christian Unity, which invited the observers and guests; Pope Paul; and Bishop Jan Willebrands, secretary of the unity secretariat.
