- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: C-31624 PAPAL HONOR FOR NUN LORETTO, Ky. -- To this American nun has come the distinction of being named by Pope Paul VI to serve as one of the first women auditors ever to attend an Ecumenical Council. Mother Mary Luke, superior general of the Sisters of Loretto, heads an order which provides teaching nuns for 19 archdioceses and dioceses in the United States. She supervised the work of 1,118 professed Sisters; 55 novices; and 37 postulants. Pope Paul named 15 auditors, eight nuns and seven lay women.
