- Nairobi, Kenya Colony--An autonomous Presbyterian Church of East Africa was established at a simple ceremony in St. Andrew's Church here with the Rev. R.G.M. Calderwood elected as its first moderator. In this photo, Mr. Calderwood, a recognized expert on the Kikuyu Tribe, addresses the congregation after his election. The new United Church comprises the former (native) Presbyterian Church of East Africa and the Church of Scotland's Overseas Presbytery of Kenya Colony.

- Web site of the Presbyterian Historical Society of the Southwest. This Historical Society exists to "stimulate and encourage interest in the collection, preservation, and presentation of the Presbyterian and Reformed heritage in the four state area" of Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. It encourages congregations to establish a heritage committee, preserve church records on microfilm or microfiche, celebrate anniversaries by writing histories of their work, and sketches of some of the saints of the church. It is an agency of the Synod of the Sun of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

- Moscow--Patriarch Alexei, head of the Russian Orthodoc Church (right), was presented with this large silver chalice by a group of nine American Protestant leaders who were on a 10-day visit to Moscow. Shown translating the inscription on the cup is Paul B. Anderson of New York, a member of the visiting delegation, who speaks Russian. The trip was sponsored by the National Council of Churches at the invitation of Patriarch Alexei. Heading the delegation was Dr. Eugene Carson Blake of Philadelphia, president of the National Council.

- Description
- Alan T. Forbes and Jane Forbes in conversation with their grandson Tyler Flynn, Jr., about their life and work in the Buffalo Christian Center. Alan T. Forbes was a Baptist minister in Buffalo, N.Y., longtime director of the Buffalo Christian Center. He was born November 28, 1922, and married Letha Jane Woods on May 23, 1943. Forbes was ordained by an independent group of Western New York Baptist ministers in 1948 and became the first full-time director of the Youthtime Evangelism Fellowship at the Buffalo Christian Center. Forbes was active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, participated in Billy Graham's crusades, hosted a radio program on WDCX "Good News at Noon," and helped organize a "baseball chapel" featuring members of the Toronto Blue Jays. He retired in 1992 and died in 2010.

- Student addresses the General Assembly of the National Council of Churches in Detroit.
- Description
- Attempts to give draft card to NCC: James D. Rubins, 21, a student at Hope College, Holland, Mich., addresses the General Assembly of the National Council of Churches in Detroit. He sought to present his Selective Service card to the delegates, to be held "in trust." Mr. Rubins, a member of the Reformed Church in America, asked the NCC to put "action behind a policy position backing religious obedience and civil disobedience." Assembly delegates voted down Mr. Rubins attempt to surrender his draft card.
