Description:Presbyterian Churchman Receives Medal for Merit -- Secretary of War Robert P. Patterson presents the Medal for Merit to the Reverend William Barrow Pugh, D.D., of Philadelphia, Stated Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A., for his services to the United States during the war. As chairman of the General Commission on Army and Navy Chaplains, Dr. Pugh was instrumental in bringing two thousand clergymen into the chaplaincy.
