Three generations of the Vass family served the Presbyterian Church in the United States and the Congo during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Vass III's wife (and daughter of medical missionary Eugene R. Kellersberger), Winifred Kellersberger (1917-2010), also served with her husband. This collection includes photographic prints, glass and film negatives, and lantern slides primarily documenting Vass II in the Congo, the American Presbyterian Congo Mission (APCM), the S.S. Samuel N. Lapsley I and II, the Congo's indigenous villages and peoples, and Belgian atrocities. View the collection guide to learn more. Featured image: L.C.
