Description:
Agricultural missions and rural reconstruction are part of the work in Deir ez Zor and surrounding area. In this picture a young Palestinian refugee, Mahmoud Hamad, takes advantage of the current copy of Poultry Journal in the home of Rev. and Mrs. Carl [ Jean Catherine] Nelson. Mr. Hamad is a teacher in the government elementary school of agriculture in Deir ez Zor. Personal friendship with the missionaries meant much to this young man recently when he lost his wife.

Six hundred baby chicks were flown by Pan-American Clipper Cargo from New York to Damascus in February, 1949. Now grown to maturity they are ready to reproduce themselves -- with the aid of two new incubators -- for distribution throughout Syria.
