Three generations of the Vass family served the Presbyterian Church in the
United States and the Congo during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
Vass III's wife (and daughter of medical missionary Eugene R. Kellersberger),
Winifred Kellersberger (1917-2010), also served with her husband. This
collection includes photographic prints, glass and film negatives, and
lantern slides primarily documenting Vass II in the Congo, the American
Presbyterian Congo Mission (APCM), the S.S. Samuel N. Lapsley I and II, the
Congo's indigenous villages and peoples, and Belgian atrocities. View the
