Text transcribed from caption: P-31805 JOHNSONS GIVE MONASTERY STONE TO TEXAS CHURCH FREDERICKSBURG, Tex. -- President Johnson uses trowel and mortar to seal a stone from the Cypriote monastery of St. Barnabas into the nave wall of the new St. Barnabas Episcopal church at Fredericksburg, Tex. The First Lady (left) also took part in the ceremony. President and Mrs. Johnson, making their first public appearance since the election, gave the stone to the church near their ranch where they frequently have worshipped. The Chief Executive said he stopped to pay his respect to “a good friend” and to express his hopes for Dr. McKay’s speedy recovery from a heart attack. KING MEETS WITH PRESIDENT WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., is escorted by Vice President Humphrey to the White House for a meeting with President Johnson to discuss the Negro voter registration drive in Selma, Ala. After the conference, the noted Negro Baptist leader said the President “made it clear to me that he plans to offer legislation to Congress specifically on voting rights.” Dr. King, winner of the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize, spent five days in the Dallas County, Ala., jail. Vice President Hubert Humphrey was sworn in minutes earlier by House Speaker John McCormack of Massachusetts. The Bible which Mrs. Johnson held had been given to the President’s family by his mother, Mrs. Rebekah Baines Johnson, 13 years ago when they moved to the LBJ ranch in Johnson City, Texas. The President is shown seated at right of the aisle in front pew. The unusual photo was made through a window of the cathedral. Similar requiem services for the world's last Orthodox monarch were held in New York and other cities. Archbishop Iakovos of New York, head of Greek Orthodox in North and South America and a member of the U.S. delegation at the King's funeral in Athens, proclaimed a 40-day mourning period. Text transcribed from caption: P-30571 PRESIDENT, EVANGELIST AT PRAYER BREAKFAST WASHINGTON, D.C. -- President Johnson and evangelist Billy Graham bow their heads at Washington's 12th annual Presidential prayer breakfast sponsored by the International Christian Leadership. Addressing the breakfast, the President called for establishment of a "living memorial" in Washington "to the God Who made us all." He said the memorial, built by voluntary contributions, would serve as a "center of prayer for all men of all faiths at all times." The President suggested that the ICL take the lead in securing support for the project.
