Text transcribed from caption: C-29684 TO SAY THANKS BOSTON -- Sister Immaculata, a Korean Caritas nun who underwent successful heart surgery at Boston’s Carney Hospital, gives a handmade Korean doll to Sister Margaret, the hospital’s administrator, as a gesture of thanks. At right is Archbishop Harold W. Henry of Kwangju, Korea, Sister Immaculata’s ecclesiastic superior; and at left is Sister Mary Stephanie, a Columban missionary nun at Mokpo, Korea. Sister Mary Stephanie was instrumental in arranging for the Korean nun to come to Boston for the delicate operation. She had written her sister, Virginia King, a nurse at Carney. Miss King, in turn, told hospital officials who arranged for the surgery. The nuns and Archbishop Henry arrived in Boston in early June. After extensive tests, the operation was performed by Dr. Joseph P. Lynch, chief of thoracic surgery at the hospital. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (CH-BOS-7E-63-RB)

NORTH CHURCH OF PAUL REVERE FAME #1529 BOSTON -- The oldest church in this city, Christ Protestant Episcopal Church is one of the historical landmarks of the United States; for it was here, on April 19, 1775, from its tall steeple, that the signal lantern told Paul Revere of the march of the British troops to Lexington and Concord. The famous phrase, “One if by land, two if by sea” referred to those lanterns. At that time the edifice was known as Old North Church. It was erected 1723 and has been used practically without interruption since the last Sunday in December of that year except for a period during the Revolution when the church was closed “by military necessity.” (one of a series) Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (EM-BOST-MES-3A-6-ROTO-A-E-O)

A Mass, including the new English ritual, was telecast by the archdiocesan TV station (channel 38) to some 140,000 children in parochial schools. The celebrant was Richard Cardinal Cushing, Archbishop of Boston. Here, at right, is Msgr. Walter L. Flaherty, director of the Archdiocesan Radio and TV Apostolate, and his staff monitor the telecast. Cardinal Cushing said “it would not surprise me” that an all-English Mass might one day be approved if the present English form of the Mass is effective. Text transcribed from caption: C-32200 ‘MINOR ELEVATION’ IN NEW MASS BOSTON -- Extensive changes in the celebration of the Mass will be inaugurated in parishes around the country on the first Sunday of Lent, March 7, in accordance with the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy promulgated at the Second Vatican Council. One of the dramatic changes occurs at the conclusion of the Canon when the celebrant raises the Host and chalice together as shown in photo. This is the “minor elevation” during which the priest recites a prayer mentioning the three Persons of the Trinity and the congregations responds with “Amen.” Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (CB-BOS-2D-65-NAB)

The first alarm was sounded by a parish curate minutes before a wedding ceremony was about to begin. The rite was performed in a nearby rectory and the wedded couple left the scene under a shower of fire hoses.
